Stuck at loading screen on start up

This being one of my favorite games of all time i found out about the free shards and when i launch the game for the first time i got Hit Esc. ive never dabbled in this so what am i doing wrong?

Use the search box up top please, or look around before posting. You need to patch the game to an older version in order to play.
