Isn't that what "quick login" does?
If you have it minimized in the tray, you do not even need to click the server you wish to play on, simply right click the icon and see what happens :P

Sure,
but a desktop icon is more comfortable.

Hi,

I would appreciate to have a herald far more detailed. Something similar to the one yo can have when playing WoW. I think it will be a huge work, but can lead to a very usefull and pretty tool.

I don't know if it's possible to render your toon in a web browser like it is on the selection page when connected toa server.

Having some tips for missing SC should be of interest too.

Also, a history of what your toon has accomplished so far is cool. for example, quests followup, dungeon visited with killed bosses.

in fact, recoding something like the WoW herald would be great.

To quote your sig; looks like you got the skills to code one; feel free =) I doubt Viper would have an issue implementing it on the website + other servers could use it as well. It would in deed be a nice contribution.

I have the skills, but not the knowledge ;)

to be more precise, I have no idea how is the charcater rendered on the selection page of the game. If someone has some hint for me, I would save time.

for the coding of the page by itself, it won't be a problem.

I lik the idea ... about rendering the models we would have to consult etaew ... the problem might be that servers for example storm has a huge database which might result is some delays(for the website/script and the server) while collecting the data
I will not solve your problems for you ... I will just give you a way to find a solution

collecting & parsing datas is not the problem, because we can based this part on a view of the database (refreshed every X hours), or a copy of the live datas on a second dabase, wich will prevent the live database from being flooded.

at the moment, my only scare is about rendering the toon in a webbrowser

I don't know if this thread is alive, or where this discussion has moved to. Is this in the server bug tracker? Is it dead?

Well, here I go:

Here is my wish list for DAoC Portal:

- Error handling around auto-update to prevent explosive death on start up due to connection errors
- Mask passwords during entry on the "Favorite Shard" page
- Keep the old server list cached to allow favorite shard header to display when the server list cannot be downloaded
- When launching from a desktop shortcut, the Username should get focus by default
- When launching from a desktop shortcut, pressing 'Enter' in the password box should trigger log-in
- The main window should be able to resize to user's desire, as web pages look terrible in the preview area

I'd be happy to help with the updates.

Please, post some suggestions for the newest version :)

"Maybe" those will be implemented already in the next versions:
  • - Servers gone offline should remain in the serverlist for another ~30 mins with an "Offline" mark?
    - ModMgr: "Details" -> Own thread
    - Help for DAoC Errors/Auto Catch?/General Tracking of running Clients.
Great idea Sir Metty :D
As a player i have a suggestion. maybe keep them for a month on the list if they are offline. Show / hide offline servers.
in addition a before the name there would be a green or Red ball to show their status as you can have both online & offline servers on the list.
beeing able to custom add server is also a nice option i liked over the past years playing daoc freeshard. Nice work

PS: i've seen people suggestion a new icon for Daoc portal. ( some of those ex. were actually great in my point of view )
the actual is great but somehow it looks pretty nostalgic / pixel for me..
