I doubt a daoc 2 is possible.
The time of daoc is over.
Graphic doesnt really matter. Thats not what daoc is about. DAoC also aint just about the 3 realm combat. Otherwise people would still play it as the 3 realms are still there. Many left with toa, it added too many gimmicks. But you need features today, people expect to get a ton of items, quest pointers, teleport everywhere, level fast etc. You need that for a successfull mmo today, but it kills the essence of daoc. Whatever that is, not that i`d know. I dont think you can really name what made daoc great, i think it was just the feeling. When was daoc at its best? When it was released dont you think? But if you think about what kind of game it was than, well it wasnt really that good. It was hardcore. I remember farming giants to get a bowmasters bracer. I was at around lv 40 at that time and the item lv was/is 26. It was the best you could have at that time with absolutly unbelievable stats +10 dex, + 7 qui, +2 longbow. All on one item!
Though we were basically happy to have anything to wear at all as a lot of regions didnt even had item drops yet. Craft Recipes ended at lv 40 items.
I remember sneaking around in yggdra forrest with my scout hunting mids who were leveling there. When i draw an arrow i did it with shaking and wet hands. I sometimes waited for hours behind some tree for the right victim and the right moment. And i mean hours. Not a long time but hours.
These thrills had their reasons. Those days it was new, today i cant even remember how many games i joined pvp combat. DAoC was my first.
I did not know what i was doing. If i saw an enemy i barely ever knew what class it was, even if i knew, i had no idea what class had what skills, spells, abilities.
If i lost i was fucked. Seriously, hunting in yggdra those days meant that i had to get to castle sauvage if i wasnt bound there, (yes those days it really mattered where you were bound), than i waited for master visur to appear, i usually arrived when he just finished his teleport and i had to wait for 10 minutes till he was ready to port again.
When i arrived at odins i had to make it through the amg. I think a lot of you know what that meant.
After that i had to sneak through the whole midgard frontier. Stealthed of course. The only safe way was along the border, but everyone else took that way too. Runing visible meant to risk an inc from behind. Also there were guards patroling. Real guards. Not some easy yellow con annoyance but a red/purp lightspeed fast death.
Whatever, that all gave me thrills. That was what made it great.
But now imagine someone would give you such a game today. That wouldnt work, not today. Not after all we have seen. All the thing we got used to.
None of us would play like that again. A game so hardcore with so few features. You can see now what the game has become after they added more and more features. A nice game, sure. But the one brilliant game it was once is gonne. And a daoc2 would be nothing better, just another mmo. You just cant turn back the time but i think thats what a lot of people want when they demand daoc2.
Sry for the long text, too much coffee.
By the pricking of my thumbs,
Something wicked this way comes.
