Looking for DOL dev called 'South' from the TABULA RASA game

Hi, I was wondering, if you are around still, South (or anyone knows how to get hold of them, "South" was the name they used in Tabula Rasa at least)?

It was around the end of February 2009 that I met 'South' in-game in Tabula Rasa, I was Marissa McCarver. Yeah, the shaven headed punk badass < http://www.tabularasamemorial.org > and Queen of the Skitterins as Kittenofdoom on the official Tabula Rasa wiki < http://tabularasa.wikia.com > :p

I remember 'South' (I have looked in the members list and I can't find anyone called that, so far as I can see, in alphabetical order, it jumps from 'Soundwave' to 'soysoy98') - please anyone say if they know what name he goes under here - said that he logged all the network stuff from Tabula Rasa that would be needed for a private server, and had been doing it since the beginning of February! He also said that apparently all the NPC text and stuff is stored on our PCs in the game files to save bandwidth, so none of that is lost as long as we don't uninstall the game. I found this site via google, I remember that he mentioned that he was from a team for another game called dawn of light, but they never told me what name they use here I was MARISSA MCCARVER in February/March 2009 on Tabula Rasa

I have talked to some of the Tabula Rasa private server people since and none of them have that kind of stuff, and would like it, so if you are still around could you please check out http://www.infiniterasa.com and pass any information you have on Tabula Rasa to them? That forum is for the new open-source project for a Tabula Rasa private server, it got started up from the Facebook group where people were trying to organise something to save the game < http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=51821789295 >. 2 years later it finally seems things are moving, but only if people keep pushing

It's a real message, none of the sites are commercial lol The PMs are literlaly just trying to get peoples' attention on the offchance I get lucky and hit someone who knows who 'South' is/*is* 'South', I know how hard it can be with stuff like this with people disappearing a lot (I meant it when I said 2 years since tabula rasa, there's been like 4 different websites that have tried to restart that game) --- I am like pretty wow to how fast you two replied, that is impressive

I honestly do remember talking to someone called that in-game, I wish I had took screenshots now. I had never even heard of this game apart from what they told me (I mainly like realistic/science fiction stuff hehe)

Please please ask all in the group who you can if you know of anyone that uses that handle or might have on Tabula Rasa, cos they literally have on their computer probably the most valuable stuff for the programmery people.. I'd love to make sure they get it, I was stupid back then for not asking for it before the game closed The convo I had was like 1-2 weeks before the game closed down forever

anyhow, i remember we enabled the 'first post need moderation', it seems it is gone with the migration.

I can't program for toffees but I remembered this and hopefully hopefully if they still have whatever the network stuff saved was around it will help them... It would be really cool if so then I will have at least done something (talking of spam, I had to lock down my http://forums.tabularasamemorial.org/ because of spambots, it really is horrible really, they make thousands of them.... I had to put it on approve by hand... so if you have any experience on dealing with that stuff it would be cool... if you look you will see what I mean, it's pretty much just me and 2 other friends posting there now, everyone ended up moving to facebook and that new infiniterasa.com place (the programmery people that need the data)

I might try out your game actually yeah hehe, it's pretty amazing how fast not one but *two* people replied lol.. but yeah first I want to find out if 'South' is around... Just like, even if you can ask who played tabula rasa amongst yourselves and someone might go 'oh yeah I made a character called South there'... in-game we got talking after I was shouting saying NCsoft suck and stuff (check out the news links on the front page of http://www.tabularasamemorial.org for why, the company is utterly amoral and ruthless, they forced the developers Destination Games to release it before it was ready and so it did a lot less well than it should have getting bad reviews due to how un-ready it was... they did a lot of patches eventually, and the game was making a profit, but because of the bad start they had lost a lot of players... NCsoft shut it down because they wanted MORE and thought that if they cannibalised staff and servers for aion it would give them more money... it backfired terribly on them and aion was one of the biggest game flops ever, serves them right... they are too egotistical to even sell the game off and just try to try whitewash it by giving people trial accounts for their other games when they closed tabula rasa)... 'South' said to me they had like a whole month of 'network data' logged in preparation of making a private server after the game went down, but it seems like no one got in contact with anyone else or at least not openly

I just tried to download your game (if only to see if South is maybe in there, lol) but when I click the Storm as you mention, at the top of this page, and it goes to the new blackish page < http://www.dolserver.net/storm > , the download link under How Do I Play < http://portal.dolserver.net/?page=downloads > just gives this error:

Don't underestimate the effort required to develope a server emulator. Especially if the original is not online anymore. You will hit roadblocks everywhere. Developing private servers takes years if you don't have an armada of enthusiastic developers.

Better forget Tabula Rasa.

There is lots of enthusiastic people though on that http://www.infiniterasa.com Tabula Rasa private server site! (my one http://www.tabularasamemorial.org is more a general one but I totally support what they are doing, after how NCsoft acted they deserve whatever they get!), they actually have a semi-working server program and open-source code up from stuff that someone spent ages on working before then decided to make it open source, they are recruiting new people and everything, I saw this psoted on the Facebook group it's how I found out about it:

Luchezar Tzochew The C++ project just finished the auth server. Game server is still in a discussion because it's a bit more complicated than the Auth. You need to put a lot of thinking before start writing it. In a month or 2 at max we should have working preview server

You are right that it seems hard to get things moving because I have watched other stuff happen there's been like 5 websites over about 2 years so far that tried to get stuff going and not finished it off - but that jhwork guy that posted his stuff, I looked up him up and his real name is Rene so the two people on Facebook in that quote have different names and must be talking about new stuff being organised on infiniterasa like I thought! After like 2 years I think it looks like stuff has a chance this time, this actually made me take the effort to go google and find this place! if South is still around cos hopefully the stuff he got if he still has it could help them! Maybe anyone else from here can give them any tips too if you feel generous at all, it seems like they could use help organising and after I looked through your groups to send the PMs it seems you are very well organised like they need to be, like you say!

This project struggles to retain the developers it has, and the numbers are at an all time low, so I don't think you'll receive external help. (Which imo is the reason why you have posted here with your barrage of links)

Log packets is network log though right? Cos South said they had logged at least a month's worth of stuff from Tabula Rasa when I talked to them in-game (they mentioned they mainly worked on dawn of light that's how I found you on google, I never got around to it til now when I saw that stuff on facebook I think it looks like there is really hope this time so it motivated me to go do try if I can find South at least they say they were going to be too busy with dawn of light to do anything themselves but that they were going to send the logs on... but yeah I never saw anything posted by him on the other sites

I'll PM you a link now if you think I am lying, go look, I talked about it over a year ago before just never got round to hunting you lot down til now, lol I just don't like linking different screen names together in public cos it makes it easier for people to google-stalk you
