Since I am off work today not feeling so great, I will share with you my current task, and where I would like to go on from there. Below are my own thoughts and have not been approved or reviewed by the project leader Graveen.
What am I doing?
I am currently compiling a complete set of release notes for a new DOL Binary release, this covers SVN revisions 2500 to 2887 or something similar, this is a very long set of notes. Which I have to sort, filter and reword.
Why am I doing this?
The last time we did a complete package release was about a year ago, and what I would like is for DOL to regularly release new server versions packaging some necessary databases with it. This will hopefully drive adoption of the binary releases for some servers, and lessen the dependence on source code modifications.
The source code will remain available for those who want to use it, and will also be there for those who want to use it to help us fix some problems.
I feel that there has never been enough incentive for server owners to contribute anything back, and perhaps if we provide them with a runnable server so that they don't have to manually update the source, merge their changes and compile, I also believe that this will make it easier for server owners to run more recent revisions, which is a better experience for their players as issues are usually addressed that way.
Lessons Learned
Developers, can you please make your SVN messages easy to read and relevant. Think of how they could be entered into a patch note, especially if they don't see the list of modified files.
What am I doing next?
After this I have thoughts about creating a roadmap for DOL releases, for this we will be using Tracker items, and aim to fix certain issues in order to make future releases.
For a longer term, I wish to rebuild my list of every Mythic patch note, and have that as the task list.
