Props, and 3D model question...

Postby xmidnight8x » Tue Dec 06, 2011 4:21 pm

First off, amazing job guys with this freeshard. I absolutely applaud the hard work you've all put in to making this server and the content it has. I started this weekend, my main character is Rayne, the valkyrie (my fav class in original DAoC). I use to play a lot on the PvE server they had, I forget the name, was the one where you could get rr15. Though I like PvP it can get frustrating and redundant at times, D2 offers the option of PvP with a whole new game at the same time. Thanks a ton for this server I am having a blast!

My question on 3D models, is it at all possible to create custom 3D models for DAoC? I work in Maya, though I am not an expert, if there were a way to create custom models I'd gladly donate some to your server. :D

Hi Midnight, thanks for the kind words.

It's not easily doable and would involve modifying the client. I know Uthgard has done zones, but I'm not sure anyone has done models.

D2 doesn't use all the models in game, and I'm always looking for goodies to add, so take a look at the showroom (link in a thread from earlier today) and let me know what you like.

DAoC uses the .nif file format for models, these are used in other games such as Elder Scrolls. There are editors out there to alter and create the models, and then you need to update the client references.

You saying you played on live PVE server? Gaheris is the name, (last I checked it was still going and one of the servers hanging on better than many of the others, at least before the Ywain consolidation thing)

They have same realm ranks as others servers though they were in many respects easier to obtain, if maybe that is what you meant so was first to obtain the expanded RRs from the original 10. Last I checked highest available was RR13 and not sure anyone hit it yet, they probably have by now. I was still hanging around it to see someone hit RR12 though and then more people attain it on regular servers so they raised it again.

Oh I meant for freeshards I played a PvE one, think it was called Age of Enlightenment? (that is the one where they had rr cap of rr15 and you could get the extra realm skill points). Though I did play on the Mythic server Gaheris for a bit too =)

I will research the .nif file format and see what I can play around with.

[edit] yeah the one on Elder Scrolls states how it can't export animations or collision detection but only static .nif files. So a weapon counts as "static" so long as it does not have a glow effect animation? http://cs.elderscrolls.com/index.php/NI ... NIF_Plugin

dang... time to whip out the 3DSMax books lol, it's made much more for .nif files 8)
