Vanishing mobs. ?

Postby bedrock1977 » Wed Mar 01, 2006 12:16 am

I just started having this issue recently... I have not made any changes to my code or DB for the server.

Mobs are all disappearing in sync almost like they are on some kind of timer? They appear several seconds later but this boggles me... Anyone having this same issue?

if you client does not receive UDP traffic, mobs will disapear. Check that your region ip settings are correct, that you are forwarding port 10400 UDP on your router and makesure you are not blocking 10400 on a firewall on your PC or the server.

This might also happen if the traffic between your server and client lags too much. This might happen

a) When you play server and client on the same machine and the server starts to have more work (eg. more action ingame)

b) When you have a dedicated machine for your server and the network somehow can not transmit the TCP or UDP packets fast enough. Eg. too little bandwidth and too many packets (eg. more action ingame)

c) Something blocks the UDP communication after it has been initialized.

hmm... perplexing.

My server is run on a dedicated 2 GHz, 1GB Ram, Dell Dimension 8100 PC. This issue has happened with only 2 people online. I will have to doublecheck my forwarding of 10400 but I am pretty sure both 10300 and 10400 were forwarded as this is a random thing that just started happening. Server has been going sinec last November.

I was just thinking if there was something else. Actually now that I think about it... my router has been acting flakey... I might take it out of the picture all together and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the support guys I appreciate the response.

We have had that problem.

Many times for blame of the antivirus, others for the firewall and how not for our friends the routers.

Usually if it is for the player, in 90% of the cases, it has been for the antivirus and others for the firewall, with requesting them that they revise their configuration, it is usually enough.

If the problem this in the server, is possible for the same causes or even for a not well configured of the router or the permits of the DOL in the machine.

Restarted many times. lol thats the easiest.

I went ahead and reconfigured my router again and will see how this goes. If it fails again I'll buy a new router. :P

If it really is the router ... but it really seems strange, normally your router's hardware should be fine I think. Strange though that this problem started suddenly. Did you change DOL Versions in between? Eg. did it work with old version and when you tried a new one it stopped working?

Nope. I did update my code to the latest 1.7.151 but that was over a month ago... this just started happening within the last few days. It's at random when it starts and I can not pinpoint it to one thing.

I will just need to see if any user reports the issue again to me. :)

I forgot it.

If these working with XML, the most possible thing is that it is the reason, a while ago ask the same thing and SmallHorse it recommended me that SQL used, never had the problem.

Mainly, when the inventory of the players grows.

I used XML for like 2 days when first messing with DOL in november... after that went to MySQL and haven't looked back. :)

SQL is the only way to go imo. 8)

I doubt that is the case, as I said.... it happened with only 2 people on the server. After my changes were made all seems ok so far...
