You need 300 players in every realm to level?

Seriously...I think DOL/CoAD will serve as emus for LANs, etc., where 8-200 players come together. You can form several lvl grps, and you can kick some butts in the battlegrouns (makes fun with ~48 players (2 grps per realm) or do some fighting at some keeps (8-16 defenders, 24-32 attackers).

Ive played DAoC in the biggest German Server called Avalon and even there with 3000 (or was it more !?) players it was very hard to find lvl-groups....and how do u wanna play RvR with 8 persons !? It sounds like much fun *ironic*

But you forgive something why DOL must be the same server than official server ?
For me DAoC is a poor roleplaying game, yep i like play but what is it, a bigger CS with level, if i can make a server i put just 8 classe Warrior, Mage, Necromancian, Monk, Bard, Clerc, Ranger, Thief. Progression like SMAUG mud or UO not the fucking spec all people play a class with same spec because it is the best spec.
I put potion, scroll, wand, staff for spell.

For me this emul is for make a game with the graphisme of DAoC but a game play totaly different, if i want play DAoC i play in a real server.

Yep sure it is a good game but emulation it is an oportunitie for make new with old. Look UO sharp many of there have different rules than the original game.

I DOL server with great rules and only 10-20 people can be a great game best than DAoC :) but very hard for make the same game with 3000 guys.

Here Here; lets get some game immersion and character development, not camp squatting!
Make people earn the uber sword of gnome bashing by completing quests in character not by camping the same spawn till they had enough money to purchase it from....

I found an article today which gave a sneak peak into Mythics server farm. They have 120 odd dual pentiums running LINUX. There are 6 servers per game world. IE lancelot my server. Plus login servers and DB servers. Clients can use up to 10Kbps.

So an average guy prob could get a dual XEON 3GHz with 2GB ram. I have priced one at under 2k (with my special discounts). I have a 1Mb uplink and a 1Mb downlink on my cable modem. I have 2 friends able to run similiar servers.

I would conservativly say I can run 100 users per server element. I am pretty sure the limiting factor would be bandwidth. Processor performace is much better today then when Mythic launched. You can always throw more RAM at a system. We are all trusting that DOL can right solid performing code. DB performance may be an issue for those who don't want a dedicated SQL server.

I for one would be happy with 300 users. That is more than enough for a game world with better designed game play than camping Fins or Kiting Pygmies.

I dunno if something like this is coming... if we exclude bandwidth available to a server, would a 64-bit processor like the Athlon 64 could help getting a heavier load of users on a server? If the emu is optimized as a 64-bits app, i think, but not certain, that it could help reducing min hardware specs to run a server....

Clients can use up to 10Kbps.

Ok, for now this is the only datum that we have.

1mb uplink => 102.4 users :P

So my shard should be able to host 204.8 ...... (how can i have .8 of a person? oh well) if everyone uses 10kbps, probably more.

But if we programs well dol, we can hope that evryone uses less than 10kbs, not?
