DAOC: Origins

As most of you will probably be aware a poll has been up on the Camelot Herald website in an attempt to gauge support for a new server type in development.
For further information about this server type see the following link.
http://www.camelotherald.com/section.php?id=43
What do you guys think about this?
I certainly would be interested in playing on such a server again, I really miss Old Frontiers, I disliked a lot all the expansions, Shrouded Isles was probably the only acceptable one.
I just have such a dislike of obsoleteing things with the introduction of new things. Being a WoW player at the moment I've noticed that the majority of old zones are completely unused, with many of the 60 instances abandoned, as the level cap was moved to 70 the items introduced far outclassed any of those. Something DAOC did right was to leave the level cap as it was. So I am glad they are thinking about going back and beefing up the old world.
Balancing the classes across the realms is such a welcome move, I've always thought there were too many classes, but they are only considering removing the Theurgist, I've always felt that there should be a small amount of classes and high utility for each class.
I agree wholeheartedly that the RvR elements should be open world RvR and not battlegrounds, and the stated removal of battlegrounds for this server type excites me, I am glad to see Mythic considering ways to allow lower levels participate in the RvR system, with things such as the red con restrictions of attacks, the way I understand it is that you can't attack grey players unless they attack you first.
Also for those interested Mythic are hosting two IRC dev meetings, which a number of DOL people are looking into attending, the information are as follows:
- Code: Select all
Server: irc.gamesurge.net
Channel: #ignvault

I was simply disappointed when I read that and for the first time ever, I gave them a feedback. Who knows, maybe they read it.
I understood that their "Classic Server" had the expansions since they wanted to make money with them. But the number of live players is constantly decreasing due to other games like AoC and especially with Warhammer coming soon, so I actually thought that this server would be the last big thing in DAoC (since there surely won't be another expansion) and therefore some sort of gift to the players. But somehow it seems like the developers never seem to fully understand what the community wants, which is a very sad thing.
It's simply a fact that a majority of the players (at least the ones that post in the biggest german board) would want to have old RAs as well as old classes and old classes only. No idea why every realm should have the same amount of classes and implementing the Valkyrie as well as removing the Theurgist would be the worst thing they could do since that ain't classic at all, that would be just as classic as their "Classic Server" was.

if you look at the US VNboards also they wanted old RA's. Thats just mythic not listening to the customer once again.

Old classes, old UI, old specs, old spells, old everything in my opinion. The game should be as it was when it was release with those stupid bugs fixed (disbanding group when entering dungeon).

They would want to get rid of my longest played class! How does that fit in with Origins?!? Get rid of Tics/Reavers/Maulers/Vamps/Locks/Bainshee/Valk/VW/Animists! Nah, never mind! I'm not going back to live no matter what they do!

If they want to claim to be returning to their origins, then they need to remove RA's completely!

Well it may be called "Origins" but that doesn't necessarily mean that they're going back to 1.35 or 1.36. I think most people would want the game to be like it was around 1.54 or 1.55 or somewhere around 1.64 or 1.65, but definately before Trials of Atlantis was released and after some of the most annoying bugs or unbalanced things were fixed.
But as Warss and me already said, they fail to understand what their community wants. Instead, they write stuff like "This would require technical hurdles we are not prepared to overcome.", which is bullshit imho. Since on the other hand, they waste their time working on crowd control which has always been fine. And this is probably just because some dumb players are crying about being cc'ed for ages but that's one of the things that make DAoC what it is, it has always been a very strategic game (at least in 8vs8 or 8vs8++) with a high importance of CC, no idea why they would agree to change this.

Well, Considering I had my Hibs on Merlin and my Albs on Bors. At this point in time, I have to wonder which realm of mine they decided to delete with that last great server merge. I don't plan on giving them any more money to find out in anycase.

agreed, go back to the patch before TOA
did we get SCing before or after TOA?
and imagine, if they implimented all the old zones and old RAs, we could start making servers with those! go go caledonia with old RAs

Well old RAs are no problem except for the icons and maybe the spell effects, just the zones are. I'd love to have the old rvr dungeons like Dodens back in the client. <3
Spellcrafting and Alchemy were implemented before SI went live, should've been somewhere at 1.5x.

awsome, lets go right before TOA then
and the RAs themselves arn't a problem, but implementing them correctly would be lots of core changes. and it's hard to find good documentation on them

on my point of view, all evolution of daoc is good. I can"t imagine spend 6 years on live server if it stays at SI version. ToA got worse & better, but this is rather because players get tired of playing daoc.

They lost me when they said they would get rid of the theurgist. That's my class, my first (out of just 2) 50's and the best time I had in the game. I was a siege engineer, as the class was advertised, and I saw myself helping out during sieges, helping to tear down doors with magic, stuff like that. I figured they would balance it out by giving unique weapons or components to the other realms so they could achieve the same results but not through a player class.
Mythic lost direction and Origins isn't going to bring it back BUT the new server type will get some play time from me, just to see how it works.

You have just described why I stopped playing RVR and became a PVE player! When RVR mentality moved away from keep/relic taking and seiges and went 8x8 4x4 1x1 I lost all desire to participate! I was a Seige Theurgist! Pet Spamm on Doors FTW!

Just as an FYI... When you say they don't want to add this in for this reason.. It's really not like that at all. The main factor you have to look at is, you cannot please everyone. Where as you might have 200 people on VN saying THIS IS LAME FIX IT, there might be 17728627868761 messages sent via herald commending them for not making that change. This makes me curious and I am going to start playing around with something and I'll get back with you shortly
