Note: Rules for in game IRC

These rules should be adhered to or punishments will be dealt. For a minor offense, you will be warned. For a major offense or three minor offenses your account will be banned.

Now, onto the juicy bit 8)

RULES:
  • ¬No swearing on the IRC. It is a public place, please respect there are others listening who may be offended by certain words, or even not know what they mean! NOTE: In 'casual' and non-'offensive' language like general talking you will be politely warned. We appreciate sometimes it is not neccessarily offensive material, but please still consider those who play the game with you. Repeated swearing in this casual way will eventually be dealt a punishment.

¬No discrimination of any type will be tolerated on the IRC. Keep it to yourself guys!

¬Do not flame! if you think someone is cheating, then please make a complaint to an online GM. Evidence will be required, so get screenshots if you can, but more importantly do not alert the cheater that you are reporting them - we tend to follow them in invisible mode for up to half an hour to see if anything is suspicious to verify a claim.

¬Do not ramble on the irc. If you are the only one posting, and have been for a while, then please consider stopping your monologue. While it is not offensive, the problem is that it diminishes the IRC from its true value - for server-wide announcements, raid-organisation, LFG offers, and relevant discussion. People who witness rambling often turn their IRC off, and forget to turn it back on again, so when something important does come up it gets missed.

¬Do not spam in the IRC. If someone is not buying your Axe of Stuff, don't get the impression that spamming it 1000 times in the IRC will suddenly show them the light.

Moderators reserve the right to judge between a major and minor offense without having to give their reasons. /mute will still be used if a person carries on from a minor offense. In case I've forgotten anything, they also reserve the right to take action on a player's deeds even if it does not break one of the rules above - use common sense guys, if you know its not gonna go down well, then don't say it!

Keep it cool guys 8)

is it possible to make a accept/decline button with a timer to accept the irc rules
and if timer is fading and no button is clicked automute for server irc but only on first login?

that wouldnt do anygood, they could just sit around till the timer is up... Or they could let it go through one ear and out the other... plus they can relog anyway. (that takes only a min or so)

What you could do is what Uthgard does. If they don't accept the terms and conditions of the IRC Rules and Server Rules by clicking on the Accept button in game... say 30seconds. Then they will be subject for an automatic log out of game.

I suggest to write a script that would automute /irc for a player for 24 hours if that player uses bad words in /irc. Also, to have a message box popout to the player saying that s/he has been automuted for breaking /irc rules. This would make sure they think twice before going bad in /irc channel. This would also make sure that ingame /irc channel is still under control, even when GMs are offline.

I was working on this, until I realised that such a machine is dumb to the meaning or context. Also, at the time I was working on it most IRC arguments were over rvr things, and actually a suprisingly small level of swearing was present (usually no higher than 'crap'). Do you think it would be useful to resume?
