Little help please - portal wont run

i keep getting the error "this application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect" and cant get portal to run at all

This is the first time i run the program on this PC, so i cant even configure it. it suggest to reinstall and i have done several times, but still the same error.

i have downloaded .net off MS site, i have used the daoc installer to download the .net automatically but still the same error

i am using XP and the minotaur install of the game, same as my friends who play but only i get this error.

windows are updated etc, tried several .nets... realy stuck on this

any help would be great, i get so jelous seeing my old friends running round in camelot lol its been years since ive played, and well the memories keep flooding back when ever i hear that buffing sound!

Strange error.

a) Try downloading the newest version (2.4a atm)
b) Try running the Portal.exe executable in a command console window; Maybe an error message is shown.

Does your account has administrator privileges? Portal may require them, as it has to modify the DAoC game files when updating/modding, or launching dolloader.

Did you ever fix this? I have the same problem and for the life of me can't get it to work. It's been driving me crazy all day. Anyone else have any ideas?

Considering it was March of last year, he's probably fixed it, or given up by now

On a more serious note, I don't have any other suggestions other then what Metty listed above. Other then as a last resort you may want to consider a format and reinstall of windows. Don't forget to do a backup first.

Failing that you can use DOLLoader.exe and a .bat file to directly connect to a server bypassing DAOC Portal.

i'm having a problem getting my portal to even load also. i have tried several versions also.

as you stated about adminstration privilages i'm an adminstartor to my server and i recently had to do a complete fresh install of win xp pro. so i'm starting from scratch loading the client and portal. and since the transfer to doac us servers i don't know if that has to do with anything.

but, first things first. by the numbers what do i need to do to get portal loaded and working if i have adminstartion rights and are there any background programs needed to launch it?

you have .net framework 2.0 installed ?

yes i have net framework 1.0.0375, 1.1, 1.1 hotfix (KB928366), 2.0 sp1, 3.0 sp1 and 3.5 installed.

ok, i did a fresh install of the O/S and net framework, and portal and i'm up and running and can log into storm and such. i believe since i was running on US live client that might have been the compatability issue. but, they are are on separate HD's.

the portal and EU client is running on one HD and the US client on another. But, for now i 'm just running the single HD with the portal and EU client.
i may plug in the other HD today or trommorrow. to see if they will run independently, with the separte clients to function as they should.
