A new player guide for DAoC: Storm?

Postby healshot » Tue Mar 16, 2010 2:18 am

Ok me and my friends are brand new to DAoC, and Storm.

Is there any good guides out there for where to obtain gear?

We all have chosen what class we want to play. But now we are to a point we are level 50 and don't know what to do to keep progressing in game.

We all have did our epic armor quest's and have our epic armor. We have captured keep's but we are looking for more things to do besides farm money and craft.

What things should we try out?

We want to gear up for bigger and better things but the world is so expansive we don't know where to start.

So again is there any guides out there where to obtain certain gear set or gear sets to work towards?

At this point we all log in and don't know where to start looking for gear, we enjoy the game we just don't have any direction to go in or a guiding hand to give us sound advice with out having people call us noob's or just general flamming.

My biggest point is what is there to do in this game besides crafting, farming, and keep capturing?

PvE encounters would be one. How much they are scripted is questionable, but you can always hit the SI epic dungeons (Tuscarian Glacier, Galladoria, or Caer Sidi) along with stuff like Legion in Darkness Falls. There might even be a few ToA encounters, but I'm not sure.

The best thing in DAoC is the RvR / PvP !! PvE is just mythics way of making us play the game more =(

In game we have tried to put many answers on the Storm Herald NPC. You can review that for some ideas what to do.

Here on the website we have a Herald where you can see what drops and mobs are implemented.

http://play.dolserver.net/?page=herald

Or specifically the drop page: http://play.dolserver.net/?page=drops

Because there are tens of thousands of items in DAoC, much too much for a small volunteer team to enter, we've mainly concentrated on those items that players desire for making templates.

We have a nice item creation tool as well. I'll talk to the staff about getting a convenient link available somewhere for easy download. Most of the time new desired drops come from players contributing them to our database via Merecs Item Creator tool. Here's the running update post with a link to the latest version: http://dolserver.net/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=6837 If you're playing Mid and want some nice mid items we could really use them!

Other than that any DaoC guide to speccing and playing will apply. We do have some issues with some classes. Missing spells, or spell lines not updated to a recent Mythic patch. It's always a work in progress. :)

Yes, currently there are two artifact encounters that I've scripted, Malice's Axe and Tartaro's Gift (They are both in the land of Typhon's Reach (Volcanus). They both will grant credit to those who are eligible. More will be implemented in the coming weeks, it's slow going for me because it takes so much work to create them, and this is something I'm doing only in my spare time, and as far as I know I'm the only person working on them. I have also implemented the Master Level 1 Encounter: Fireisland which is also near Volcanus Haven. It dosn't currently grant credit but it's something you can do for fun and loot :)

I'm updating the Storm Herald FAQ in game to add more information. It's in the form:

[clickable text] description

If you want to write some descriptions about the encounters available I'll be glad to add them.

[tartaros gift] High Priest Akil holds the secret gift of Tartaro with the help of his fellow priests. If you're up to the challenge he can be found in Typhon's Reach (12k, 50k). Recommended party size: 1 group.

[malice axe] Malamis guards the legendary Malice Axe with a challenge to fill his treasure chests with coins and defeat him. Interact with the axe to attempt the encounter which can be found in Typhon's Reach (45k, 22k). Recommended party size: 1 group.
