Here is where we can discuss development of the PvP shard. Let me lay down my goals and get some feedback.

- Classic zones (all realms), Camelot but not Jordheim or TNN, dungeons, Darkness Falls, and perhaps the epic SI dungeons. Nothing more.

- Only Camelot will be safe, all other zones are full PvP

- Crafting support identical to Storm.

- No guilds, ever. Guilds make for gangs which is one reason for failure of most PvP servers, IMO.

- Group members are safe from each other, and I may look into expanding that safety to battlegroups. How does this work on live?

- No quests. All end game loot will be obtained via drops (ROG, templated, OTD).

- Health and Mana regen rates will be lowered to pre-silly levels of the live servers.

- Group teleporters fixed to work in the PvP shard and Realm teleporters will not drop.


Any comments, questions, suggestions?

I love the idea of no guilds that is a +.

A few questions, are you going to have ToA bonuses, or is +75 stats that max? In my opinion if you push true classic rules to this Storm Shard, I got a feeling a bunch of people will enjoy it.

Another suggestion that always sucks is being constantly ganked by extremely high levels, again I understand a pvp server really has no rules, BUT is their a point for a level 10 to constantly being ganked by a level 50? Possibly setup something where if your grey you cant attack, and if your grey to them if you attack you get a buff put on you that will allow the high level to attack you back. Dunno, just some suggestions.

Bounty System
Maybe some sort of Bounty Hunter system, where someone can goto a NPC and do /whisper player bounty GankerName 1 plat. And if someone kills the targeted player they collect the reward. This would go perfect with your planned "kill quest" system your working on. Maybe add a new column to that table for target type i.e: NPC, Player, Object ?

I can easily cap stats, even if there are items with toa stats on them I can have custom property calcs that ignore them.

We'll have to see on ganking, either it will be a problem or it won't, and if it is we can look into how players can still level up. One of the things that killed Modred was the inability of new players to survive on the server.

Tola, I have a small suggestion for the PvP shard. Since it is new and a lot of it's players are still broke and not high enough to do dragons for repecs, Is there a way to remove the cost / growth rate of purchasing respecs?. Or maybe an NPC that sells the various respec stones for more than they sell for (Ie if it sells to a merchant for 10g make it cost 20g)

Yea, I agree 1X xp. I've cranked down the server XP rate and added a bonus for Storm, not active in PvP, to make up the difference so for normal players xp rate is the same.

Removed /buff command from PvP. Just need to restart the regions for it to take effect.

As storm don't have an "High" population, don't you think is better don't split the population?

I've heard this numerous times.

My take is quite simple.

If you play on Storm for live like RvR then you play on Storm for live like RvR, otherwise you don't play on Storm. If people want to play PvP, for example, they usually go to another server. With PvP available inside storm we at least keep them on our server and they are helping us find bugs. So think about this so called split. What does it mean to split the population? We have arenas and many were using them to play PvP games but they were still on Storm. Is this a split? We now have people leveling characters in the PvP shard, but they still have their RvR characters and can still talk to other Storm players. Is this a split?

I think the whole concept of 'splitting' the population is silly. What people want, when they say don't split, is to FORCE players to play the way they want them too. That's never a good thing. In my opinion. :)

Some updates.

- I've got a market explorer exclusive to PvP almost working, so expect that to be added within a week.

- Experience has been bumped up to 3X and storm rewards can be turned in to Camelot. XP rates for PvP can now be set independently from Storm.

- I will probably not enforce old loot bonuses, so expect +cap and other ToA bonuses to work in PvP.

- I suspect we will soon reach a point where all the people that play PvP are level 50 and the population stagnates. We may run into the same issue the live PvP servers have, no one likes to join new. I am exploring ways we might be able to solve this issue and attract new people. I know there's an audience for i50 PvP, but those players want i50 AND all equipment handed to them ... which no Storm related server will ever do. Ideas are welcome. I'd like to stay as close to the live PvP ruleset as possible so we can continue to swash bugs. Already we've found and fixed a few issues with the core code.

Simple suggestion for the free armor, give them free +75 stats, +20 resists, +11 skills. Make them earn the stat cap items/resists/toa bonuses by BPs. Someone that knows their class and knows how to play still stands a good chance vs someone with+101 stats and +25 resists.

Second suggestion, whenever someone trains in a trade skill give them 1000 in the skill, and make them earn the money to spell craft their own gear, they still need to work for it, but allows it a little easier. The problem with this method is, the majority don't even know how to craft in the game.....

The way I got my server setup, and I can supply the code if needed, but RP bonuses depends on realm rank. For instance how I got mine setup is as followed:

RR1 = 1x BPs, 10x RPs
RR2 = 1x BPs, 8x RPs
RR3 = 1x BPs, 6x RPs
RR4 = 1x BPs, 4x RPs
RR5 = 1x BPs, 2x RPs
RR6+ = 1x rp (normal rate)

This allows new characters or new players to the server get a little boost to rps to get up to speed.

I don't like i50. It attracts the wrong kind of player who has no real investment in his or her character. I'd like to find a sweet spot where an investment is made but it's not very painful. Perhaps none can be found.

Just make the issue with greys giving XP/RP is fixed and maybe increase the PvP Safety Flag till level 25? or a new flag where if you're below level 25 then you can only attack others below level 25 :)

How about making a few zones safe zones but slower XP? like Cornwall is safe and 1x XP?? if people get sick of being ganked they can just go there:)

Is that broken in the core? Can you get XP/RP from grey? Can you on live?

The world is a big place and teleporters are everywhere. You can easily go somewhere to level and not be found, IMO. That was part of the fun of the Live PvP server. I would go to an area I would normally never visit to level, so I wouldn't get ganked.
