BioWare Mythic Announces Open Source Dark Age of Camelot

BioWare Mythic announced today that due to falling subscription numbers and a decrease in funding for development that it is willing to turn to the community in order to keep the DAOC servers on-line and patches being generated, it has made available the complete Dark Age of Camelot source code to the public under the name of Open DAoC

- - The subscription for Dark Age of Camelot will be removed and the game transitioned to a Free to Play system (See more below)
- Mythic will continue to run the Ywain cluster to provide a stable service for players
- Bioware Mythic will host a bug tracking system to allow user submitted fixes
- Freeshard running and development will be approved
- - A credit based shop will be introduced to the game, adding cosmetic and time saving items such as
- -- Bounty Point, Realm Point, and Experience boosts.
-- Master Level Credit and Artifact Credit.

-- Exclusive Mounts
-- Unlocking of Tiered battlegrounds past 20
- All current subscribers to the game will receive in-game credits based on the subscription time remaining. - -- Bounty Point, Realm Point, and Experience boosts.
- - BioWare Mythic will take over the development of DAoC Portal
- DAoC Portal will be integrated with the DAoC launcher to handle securely all account authentication
- Freeshards will be listed on the other rule-sets category of the DAoC Launcher
- An API will be released to freeshard server admins to allow logins through the DAoC Launcher
- - As a result of player feedback the default UI's will be removed
- BobsUI will be installed as standard with the configuration moved to within the game
- An addon API will be released allowing the community to create game-enhancing add-ons.
- Constructive developer discussions will take place on VNBoards for the important game-play affecting features.- -- Clipping to be enabled in RvR zones, giving tanks a use
-- Changes to the caster interruption system, using a castbar and knockback
