DAoC Portal Questions

First off, Hello to everyone!

I was so excited when I stumbled upon DoL after picking back up on DAoC again, I couldn't wait to get this started... all the memories playing on Lancelot and Palomides.

I'm having some issues with getting DAoC Portal to start, particularly starting up to the servers.

I installed the DAoC Portal,.NET Framework 4.0,DAoC Client, and mods.. but when I go to play on Uth, that terrible "Windows has encountered blah blah blah" error message comes up.

When I try to set my path for the client it tells me it's invalid (C:/program files/Electronic Arts/Dark Age of Camelot -- Correct?), but when I click patch it seems to update the client..

I believe the port for Uthgard is 10300? I'm just making sure because I don't seem to recieve any messages regarding the connection was blocked.

I have uninstalled the client, DAoC portal and tried again, but to no avail.

Only thing(s) I could think of is maybe my .NET Framework 4.0 needs reinstalled (intalled it with Microsoft Visual C# 2010 Express)
or that when I try to run as Administrator, I don't know the password :? , but if my user account has Admin rights, I shouldn't have to run as Admin, right?

Sorry for the questions I'm sure you've read thousands of times... I've tried looking on the forums and trusty Google, but I figured you guys are my best hope. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated... I want to play so bad I can hardly contain it :D

Thanks!

OK.... don't know if it matters, but I looked into the log for DOL and it says this -

12:05:50,250 - [MAIN] - ERROR - DOL.Database.Connection.DataConnection - ExecuteSelect: "DESCRIBE `Inventory`"

System.NotSupportedException: Connector/Net no longer supports server versions prior to 5.0

intalling MySQL 5.x

Ignore the error when it says the client path is invalid, I'm unsure the reason for the error atm.

You must replace the Mysql.data.dll in /lib folder with the MySQL 6 one (get it in MySQL web site).
It should work if the API is compatible.

Ok sorry, i though you were running 6.0.11, which is still in alpha. Download correct Connector (mysql-connector-net).

Downloaded the mysql-connector-net 6.5 and now have mysql server 5.5... still having trouble with that error message.

When I try to access the MySQL Client Command Prompt it appears for about a second then disappears..? I have not installed any Applications like Workbench CE or Notifier; are those necessary?

And once again may I ask:

If you are already the computer admin do you still have to click run as admin? Reason I ask:

19:45:50,781 - [MAIN] - ERROR - DOL.Database.Connection.DataConnection - ExecuteSelect: "DESCRIBE `Inventory`"

MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlException (0x80004005): Access denied for user 'dol'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

I'm confused you start by talking about DAoC Portal and connecting to Uthgard, and now your talking about running DOL Server.

Remember, if you are running DOLSetup, you don't need to install your own MySQL server.

Haha sorry Etaew... I've been very deprived of sleep lately so I appologize for getting those two mixed up .

Well, I went ahead and redid pretty much everything this time but now when I go into the Mod Manager and i tried to patch this error came up:

ModMgr Fatal Error:

Error while generating directory structure
Unable to read beyond the end of the stream.

Again sorry about all of these problems... all I want to do is play some DAoC :)

You can play DAoC without using the ModMgr, Uthgard only uses this for their custom zone and old frontiers.

First you can get into the game, and then worry about it.

The only steps are
- You download the DAoC Client - the game
- You replace the game.dll from the DAoC Client with the 1.109 game.dll found on Uthgard and these forums
- You download DAoC Portal - to launch the game and connect to custom servers
- You point DAoC Portal to the DAoC Client folder so it knows where to launch it
- You select the server you want, enter a username and password and press connect

Frustrating is the word to describe this... I have done exactly what I'm supposed to do and i still get

'DAoC Portal has encountered a problem and will now close, we are sorry for the inconvenience.'

Error signature

EventType: clr20r3 P1: connect.exe P2: 2.1.0.13589 P3: 5076681c
P4: connect P5: 2.1.0.13589 P6: 5076681c P7: 10 P8:38
P9: system.iofilenotfoundexception

There has to be something I can do to resolve this :?

Ahah now your getting somewhere, error messages tell you what is wrong ;)

It can't find the connect.exe, go to your DAoC Portal folder and check the files that are in it.

I'm not sure why you don't have it, if you used the installer from the website (make sure you run the update function).

(You may need to run the program as an administrator)

Aye, I have it in the C:/Program Files/DAoC Portal Folder, but when I click on on it comes up with a syntax error:

Please specify the required arguments:
connect.exe"<path_to_game.dll>"<server[:port]><acc><pw>[<character><realm>]

Might be a quote issue. Might be a run as administrator issue (needs permissions to see that directory). Usually spaces in any folder name can cause fits when looking for a file.

Are you supplying a username and password before clicking on the server?

If you create a shortcut to the file you can bypass DAoC Portal and pass in the arguments directly to the connect.exe application.

Have you also tried the Uthgard forums? :) They actually wrote it.
