as of 2.8c I can no longer use the portal.

i set this all up and started playing on Uthgard on March 4. everything was working until 2.8c. now i get the following popup error message ... I start the program (which says 2.8b by the way), it finds the servers, it begins the update of 2 files, then everything disappears and:

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:\Program Files\DAoCPortal\Portal.exe' is denied.
at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode,String maybeFullPath)
at System.IO.File.Delete(String path)
at Updater.Program.Main(String[] args)

I have win7 sp 1. everything was working fine until 2.8c.

I have tried running as admin, and not as admin. I have tried changing all of the permissions of the \daocportal and \program files\daocportal to full access. i have tried deleting and re-downloading portal. i have tried not deleting and then re-downloading portal. i have tried switching the directory of portal from e:\ to c:\. and i have updated DAoC to the newest version.

if anyone has any idea how to resolve this issue I would really appreciate hearing it.

Can you check if Portal.exe is marked as read-only? Just go to C:\Program Files\DAoCPortal\, right click on Portal.exe, and select "Properties".

If this is not the case, check in the "Security" tab whether there are any strange permissions set for this file. If run as an administator, the Updater should be able to replace Portal.exe.

Edit: Also check if there is still _another_ Portal.exe running that might be causing this issue.

nothing is marked read only.

everything has full permissions

running as administrator or not both give the same error message.

nothing else is running except firefox.

I now know of a second person having this same problem. I really hope someone who can understand the error message directly reads this. Really starting to suck as the days drag on. :/

just an update in case anyone who actually works on the portal code reads this. I know have a workaround.

double click update.Portal
it asks for permission to make changes to hard drive - select NO
large error message pops up. ignore error message.
click back on Portal and launch Uthgard as usual.

both Portal and DAoC run fine even with the ignored error message popup box in the background.

You can dezip/replace your files by this : Don't forget to kill portal.exe, connect.exe, update.exe, etc...
