Storm and Storm D2 offline for an extended period

Hi all,

nothing was lost, but I was infected by Ransomware via either a deliberate attack or a backdoor in Windows 7 RDP (most likely) that caused me all kinds of grief this weekend. I kid you not, the opsystems that Storm and StormD2 were on are so old they were protected from the attack. They are offline, and turned off, until I can grab the contents and put them on better machines.

I don't really have time for this so we're talking maybe a month or more.

Remember, backups are key. Google Drive constant backups plus offline USB drive backups saved my butt.

It's really amazing I lasted this long without being attacked.

Hi Mark,

Perhaps it is also time to pull the wires, due to lack of Storm / Storm D2 players. The project is indeed not active, the sources are on Github, and although i'm renewing domain, i fear it won't be enough . But this decision is into your hands.

Office 365 also spare 1Tb of cloud storage per active subscription, i have some very small corp using it for backups, and it works very well.

Please, don't shutdown Storm and D2 !!!!
i know there are few players, but it seems the same everywhere or at least in the servers listed on DOL.
D2 expecially is a great source of good time, at least for me.

If needed i'll make a donation for server's rent..., but please... don't shutdown the magic

Well if you want i can have a server available to put them online for the time being and you can put them back online when you have the time.
just tell me the speccs you need and how many cores and ram you want and i can have it up and running in a matter of hours.
Then we just need to configure all and it's set.

I'd like to say that I also miss Storm and would be happy to see it online again, cause I've got some characters here and its afaik the last free open world RVR DAoC Shard.

If thats not possible, maybe the last database could be posted in the user files section for personal use?

I have no problem with make public the last storm database except i would strip account & characters. Perhaps i could hostn whole Storm somewhere else (i got propositions in that way).

I love Storm D2, sure its not a game i play 24/7 but man is it a ton of fun evertytime i do play. So hope to see it back online soon and good luck to you all during these crazy covid times.

I am glad to see Storm made it back online. I wish D2 had as well. makes me sad, i know that had to be a whole lot of work.
