UO propaganda

Please, do not delete or block this topic. I am aware of a similar one, but I believe there's a need in a special topic.
For more than 5 years Ultima Online had been the best MMORPG, just like I stated on one of the forums.
Why was UO such a success? Doubltfully because of it's graphics. I believe it's much more because of the way UO is.
The unique skills system, the kills count and crafts. I believe, if we want DOL to win, we need to get it as close to UO as possible!!
I am not saying we need a 3D UO, I am REALLY not saying that it should be a 100% copy of UO, but many things should be copied.
There are stupid things about UO, such as the recall and NightSight spells. Much more stupid things about OSI.
But in general, Ultima Online is a success and in my opinion that would rather be stupid not to take some successful ideas and use them in DOL.
Specifically I suggest:
*Instaed of these silly levels, we need a skill system.
You start with a skill or two each 50, and you train them.
I don't care about the skill cap, but people still should be able to learn a few skills. There's a lot to discuss about this, so if this idea is passed, we can all discuss it later.
*Kills system for pvp. No realms, everyone is from the same realm. Each person you kill, your kills count goes up. If it's 5 or more, you're a PK. Entering into a guarded zone (yeah, another idea directly from UO) you risk in being called guards over.
*Everyone starts in the same place. Why? Because free shards don't get too much people. 100? 150? If you get 300, it's considered a lot. And if you have 300 people in your shard and everyone starts in different places/maps, you get to see another player once/milenium.
And if everyone starts in the little town around Camelot, you will have a lot of people standing by the bank or whatever it'll be. That's just interesting and the soceity life will only benefit from this.
*Loot is also a very cool idea from UO. You die, you lose your stuff and everyone around you may get your stuff unless you're the first to get it.
*A better crafts system.

Not everyone is going to entirely agree with me but hey!! It worked for UO, why wouldn't it work for DAoC? Think about it..
ah, yeah.. and of course tell me what ya think.

I think you should download DOL and extend it to support a ruleset like this.

Of course I will.
If this idea doesn't work, I will definitely make my shard to work like this.
I do believe, though, it would be benifical to the whole DOL community.

You need to remember, DOL is limited by the client. you cannot just revamp the skills system because the client is programmed for the current skill system

also, DOL's goal is to be as close to the live servers and possible, not to be something entirely new... that is for the individual shards to decide and program.

Right, but it still doesn't mean we can't add crafts.

As for DO's goals. Now this is not right, we talked about it in a sticky. Most still don't want it to be as close to DAoC as possible.
Thanks for sharing your opinion.

Anyone else?

It's ok dude, we understand that.

Well, as I see people didn't really like my ideas.
Well, in some ways it's even good because soon when I get done with C# I will write my own shard with all of my ideas and it'll just be more original.

Thanks everyone
Please, close the poll

Not bad ideas here are the ones i can really comment on.

*Everyone starts in the same place. Why? Because free shards don't get too much people. 100? 150? If you get 300, it's considered a lot. And if you have 300 people in your shard and everyone starts in different places/maps, you get to see another player once/milenium.

done just change start up locations

*A better crafts system.

hmm wonder what is wrong with the one DOL has.

Wish DAoC had a server like this. Actually to OP that is why I came to this site to see if there was a freeshard going that was based on skill instead of level/Mythic's hybrid skill system.

If there wasn't I wondered if it was possible without breaking EULA. I really just don't know enough about this project and what is on the client side and what the server is responsible for(when it comes to spells and abilities).

I would even settle for something like up allowable skillpoints x level and have every class start out as one of the current bases(with choice to choose from any spec line in game). The races stats would be what would make for better casters, tanks, ect(still have the 1st 30 points to put where ya want though).

Wonder if something like this is possible without breaking EULA?
