Ok I have been moving around a lot of documents and FAQ, I updated everything and installed CVS Tortoise and tryed to compile my DOL server's folder...

Please if someone can explain from almost the start (wich means when we get and added GameServer2005-07-15_src + GameServer2005-07-15_bin into a new Folder, all together. + the start_console.cmd that is working well when I launch my server with it.

Ok, so now I can launch my server using start_console.cmd and once it says ready for connections I try to join my server using DAoCPortal and also the Connect.bat wich is also scripted to join the good server (mine). Both of them are doing the triple Trying... and in my server's console it says: Client Version 179 not handled in this server! (I tryed the most recent version before, 1.81 US)

I can't downgrade my daoc game for lower euro version so I guess my launcher is too low and needs updates.

You guys told me to go see the topic where it is written: Dawn of Light 1.7.140 was just released to the STABLE branch!

But I don't really know the branches, STABLE and HEAD. Either I don't know CVS Tortoise. If somebody can help me once I install Tortoise, what do I have to do Step by Step. I will be so thankful!

I am so sorry to have to do this but I try and try things you say (like go there and read, get there and download.) I did all but I think I don't really understand (I am a french canadian, but fine with english so doesn't matter the language.)

Step-by-step if you can tell me how to update the launcher or how Tortoise works, once I compile, what do I have to do to make compatible versions

Thanks alot in advance for those who accept to help a newb that really want to have a server (because I only have troubles in being able to join my own server rather than just scripting for stuffs inside of it lol)

Same here. They say the latest stable build will support 181, but I followed links and did what is told and it doesn't support 181. So I'm confused as how to get this working as well. There is no documentation anywhere, at least not where a normal person could find it.

Anyone want to do a writeup? Or at least say if there is actually a build that will support 181? If so, where can you get it? Since you can't downgrade, it's either that or nothing I guess.

using Tortoise CVS to download STABLE src:

1. Install Tortoise CVS
2. make folder on your HDD - for example DOL
3. Rightclick on DOL folder, click on CVS Checkout
4. Setup following:
   • Protocol: Password Server :pserver:
   • Server: cvs.sourceforge.net
   • Repository Folder: /cvsroot/dolserver
   • Module: DOLSharp (you can get it by 'FETCH LIST')
   • User Name: Anonymous
   • Revision-> Choose branch or tag
   • Revision-> Update List...
   • Revision-> Branch or tag Name: STABLE
5. Click 'OK' ... you are downloading CVS Stable now

you can use a compiler like nant, msbuild, or visual studio 2003/2005 to compile this source code into a working server build.

nant with the .net 1.1 framework is the best solution as .net 2.0 doesnt agree with DOL very well. You also need the .net 1.1 SDK before you can compile with nant.

msbuild is included in the .net 2.0 framework, and visual studio .net 2005 is .net 2.0

Yeah wow, when I try to Update List it asks for a password.. when I do FETCH LIST it also needs a password. WTF?? <--- Now seems to be ok..

have you got a network card or a modem (adsl or regular)?
have you get the ip with ipconfig?
have you set the ip in config file of server ?

No problem now.. I downloaded a fully folder with everything updated, everything to make my server works and loader... and also it is already set up to update with Tortoise. Thx I am fine now..

ok, but the one I use is the 1.76 one, but you can use it with euro 1.78.

You will have to update it for the 1.81...

I hope you get to see this email. My nickname is Justae. I'm from South Africa. I've been running a very successful Ultima Online server for 5 years now, but I'm afraid it's showing its' age.

I've recently started with DAoC DOL emulator, but my users cannot log in. Most of them have the Catacombs 1.81 client installed. I have the latest automatic CVS from the Dawn of Light website, but the server does not recognise the client version 1.81.

Reading through these forums, I see you had the same kind of difficulty and I was wondering if you could give me the link to a handy "ready-to-run" DOL server ?
