Looks like it's time for another update in regards to our project, but I'll be keeping this one quite quick and to the point, as there is a bigger issue to do with databasing atm.
General databaser info:
- Welcome 'mico' to the database team.
- Welcome 'Il folletto di Uao' to the database team.
- Congratulations to 'Tired' for getting Engaged(To a woman!)
Okay, this is where the fun starts:
Through out the last 8-10 months, updates for the Dawn of Light databases were done by myself (Taking on the work from previous inactive databasers) which involved going over most of all the old work done, and cleaning it up and fixing it, myself. Now, within the last 4 months I've had several people join my team and come and go. (Ulung/Minimal/Mico/Tired etc) which has made the releasing of DOL databases more frequent and generally making the database more live like.
Over the last 2-3 weeks, Etaew has been harassing myself and my team for a
full public release now, after much whining from my part and much patience from Etaew. We have now come to the decision where as the database that the Dawn of Light OFFICIAL server uses, is now completely available for public usage; each 'group' being seperatly downloadble here:
http://www.dolserver.net/?nav=databases
Now, this is where MY concern as the DB-TL comes in. I'm releasing this on behalf of the Dawn of Light, the Dawn of Light community and as a sign of good faith towards other databasers who are working on the project. IF I hear no public responces, or get no help (Other than from the people on my team) regarding this, any sort of report or any sort of feed back. The databases will become very very infrequent, and there will be no more updates.
If you, as the user of this database would like to help; please visit the database forum (which is now public) and post the fixes/report what's not working with the current database; which can be found here:
http://www.dolserver.net/viewforum.php?f=19
How this will work is:
- You post what's wrong with the database in the post which has been made, and if you can; post a query in SQL FORMAT in the other thread for it.
- If you cannot post an update, just report and we will fix it as soon as possible.
The more reports/fixes we get; the more frequent the database releases will come. (Much like a torrent, more people who seed; the more people get. Less people who seed, less people will get)
Sorry to end this on a bad note, and I'm sure I've forgotten something...
Next post from me (in this section) will be news about the database and the general situation on it, till then.
Happy Gaming,
Overdriven and the Dawn of Light Databasing Team.
