PvE Gear

Postby Tolakram » Tue Feb 05, 2008 10:33 pm

I'm a carebear at heart, so I enjoy being able to obtain neat stuff and at the same time not break the RvR game for those that like it.

Here's a cross post of something I said in another thread:

By obtaining PVE gear you could progress to tougher and tougher mobs solo. While a group could take it on right away you could to but would have to spend time farming for PVE gear.

In case you haven't played cats, PVE bonuses are
% chance to block
% chance to parry
% chance to evade
Bonus to style damage
Bonus to reactionary style damage
... a few others.

These items are normally obtains in Catacombs, but I hate the idea of leading everyone to a new zone just to get certain gear. Might I suggest that once you hit level 50 the unique items will start to contain PVE bonuses. These bonuses only work against NPC's and only in non rvr zones. The chance of getting PvE bonuses will be minimal, so it will require farming to collect enough gear to make a difference.

The primary goal here is to allow someone who can't group a lot the ability to collect enough gear to be able to tackle the tougher (some, not all) mobs. This gear could only be worn by players of the appropriate level (possibly limited to 50).

Would anyone be interested in this? Would anyone be concerned it might break the balance? Too cheesy? I'm PvE centric so many times my ideas sound loony to others. :)

Here are some examples of PvE gear:

http://camelot.allakhazam.com/item.html?citem=21624
http://camelot.allakhazam.com/item.html?citem=22810

These are dropped items but these bonuses are also available on unique items.

Can we also have more Glowies?!? :P Yes I'm a Glowie Addicted PVEaholic! Hi! My name is Steve and I'm a GlowieAholic! I just spent about an hour in DF collecting Diamond seals just to buy glowy DF weapons only to discover the items I bought had no Glow to them here.

yes, we can add Glowies and skin to plenty of weapons.

but, really, the difficult thing is to know what glowie add.

when /report please give me glowing number and color number, it'll be surely fixed, more surely than a report without ;)

Well if I recall correctly, all the DF diamond Gear had just your basic green glowy. I have no idea from looking at those two charts just which green that was. Right now I only have the Diamond gear Friar's Quarter staff and the Thuergist Diamond Ice Staff.

The DF weps had glow #72 (with the same color) for Hib ;)

Same sort of effect for all weapons, just the glow was made longer for longer weps, and I think the Blunt weapons had a different effect, but I can't be sure of that at this time (been over 2 years since I played on the live servers)...

hmmm baybe instead of adding normal items for pve bonuses, why not add some mythical items for those bonuses instead. for example: a mythrian for melee classes (extra evade, block, parry and style dmg), for caster classes (bonus to spell dmg, casting range and spell duration), healer classes (spell duration, healing effectivness and buff effectivness). and to obtain those item's you need to do a 4 man quest. and ofcourse, u can only benefit from those bonuses in pve areas only. . just an idea

It could be an interesting thing if such custom armors also came with different skins. On the co-op and PvP servers armor and weapons are cross-realm useable, therefore those models should still be available. If some of the other realm armor graphics, or even some of the other odd graphics (ToA, Cat, seems to me there were also some strange pieces that were unique to a single drop or two as well, though those might have gone with the newer skins) were used to spice up the new armors then you could create a whole new flavor for them. Additionally, they could drop pre-dyed with some of the more unusual or expensive dye colors.

Perhaps even something like having the new armor sets drop in specific under-utilized areas and dungeons that already exist so as to get folks out and about the world more would be fun. And just for kicks, don't tell us where you put them.

That way you could have a set of really swanky armor drop in Dungeon A; a different set in Area B (like off of certain mobs in Cursed Forest; or some sweet leather or reinforced off of some higher level siabra... yeah, I'm a Hib at heart). And just to get folks really out and about you could tailor the ROG tables to specific classes in different sets.

Course now that is starting to be a whole lot more work, but I have yet to see anything quite so inovative on any shard. Might well be worth the effort, plus it could really revitalize the old world zones, and maybe even add some much needed character to the SI ones!

On top of that you could design similar sets that drop with ROG PvP stats, then have them drop off of mobs in the Frontiers and the BG's. It could be a lot of fun to take down an Albion keep guard and pull a hunk of studded off of them that you are able to wear!
